How did I end up on the right?

I admit that while a registered independent I staunchly vote Republican. I was raised in the suburbs south of Boston in a pro union home where my father was the primary breadwinner and worked for the IUEC all of his life. Admittedly they took very good care of thier members and while we never had a lot of money, we had everything we needed.

As I grew up and got a better perspective of the world- (read : started earning my own money)
I seemed to move further & further to the right. Not because of spite or hatefulness or avarice. I don't really have a lot of greed in my soul. I simpy got tired of learning about all the things people were doing with my money.

Excise tax, state tax, federal tax, Railroad tax, FICA, Social Security. Even young and living at home, I started to realize what a bite these thighs were taking out of my small paychecks while I worked part time and went to high school & college.

My problem was that I started paying attention. I read the papers and asked questions. I got involved in and followed politics. And every time I took a step that gained me more knowledge, I learned something more distateful.

Welfare cheats, Social Security Disability, Food Stamp Fraud, unemployment scams, and as I get older its even ore distasteful. Immigration cheats, housing scams, SSN & identity theft.

All of it on my dime.

It needs to stop. I don't know how nor do I delude myself that it can be stopped. But something... anything is better than nothing.

In the words of the famous Dr Marvin Monroe- baby steps.

Now, for those of you who follow the Massachusetts miracle- stand by. I feel someone pushing me forward into a bent over position. His name is Deval. And there's not going to be any love in whats next.
